I am just a casual sabre fencer, but this year I decided to indulge myself. My choice was between the D'Artagnan IV and the Nike Zoom Ballestra. Some of the people in the club I Ballestra. I chose the Adidas D'Art IV based on the recommendations of some elite fencers I follow. I 'm glad I did. I am happy with the purchase.

These shoes have been terrific for our son. Based on growth and heavy use, he is on his 5th straight pair in 2-1/2 years. Only one failed a bit prematurely so far. As noted, they run about a half size large.
The Fencing Post has been a great vendor. When we order online it's our first stop.

My son's fencing coach recommended we invest in a good pair of shoes as he's beginning to compete more. After reading a lot of reviews -- and considering my son is still growing -- we selected these as a good first shoe. He's really enjoyed them and has done much better with his footwork just in the few times he's worn them. Turns out we chose pretty wisely -- his coach had the same shoe at one time. They do run large; we ordered a whole size down from his running shoe as another person recommended, and it's a great fit if slightly narrow. Suspect that will resolve itself with use.

I've worn the AF Morehouse fencing shoes, which seemed very nice, but are too wide for my feet. I've also fenced in Adidas Samba Millenniums (the ones with the rolled soles and a bit of padding, not the normal soccer ones) and they were pretty nice too, but I ended up wanting to use them more as my "other sports" shoe, so I bought these.
These are super light, fit very well*, and are nicely more "reinforced" than the morehouse or sambas were. What I mean by that is the ball of the foot area seems side to side stiff, but they're very comfortable, and I would almost go to say that my footwork feels more confident, but if anything, it just feels more planted. I'm really excited to keep using them.
* The sizing is HORRIBLE. I wear a size 10 regular samba daily. I have a size 9 in these shoes and the width is almost perfect. It's a tiny bit longer than I'd like, and I have a suspicion I could fit fine in 8.5's. They're very long for their width, but I think it's definitely worth ordering them and trying them out!

I just bought a second pair of these shoes for my daughter. Her last pair held up exceptionally well. She used them for 15 months including, practice - 12 hours a week plus fencing tournaments approximately three times every month. Great fit, high quality construction, and durable materials. Very good value. My daughter puts heel inserts (plastic) in her fencing shoes and that also adds greatly to comfort and life of shoe. This brand also is a better fit for people with narrower feet. Does come in mens sizes, so just use the easy charts to convert women's size to mens.
