Durable and Safe

Although light guards are popular/fashionable in both épée and foil, I like this guard for its durability and protection, in particular through its rolled edges. In infighting or simultaneous attacks guard-guard entanglements may occur and when the guard’s edge is thin/sharp (in case of light aluminum guards) it can hurt the fencer’s or the opponent’s hand. This guard is very durable and I don’t think the extra 20 or so grams it carries over lightweight guards is felt for a foil, on which nowadays everyone uses a pistol grip (if a non-orthopedic AKA French grip is used and one pommels, then the weight of a guard may have a sensible impact on the balance of the weapon).
